Suqia UAE initiatives emulate the values of the UAE’s founding fathers instilling generosity among Emiratis

Suqia UAE, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, continues its efforts to provide drinking water for communities suffering water scarcity and pollution. This is in collaboration with concerned authorities and organisations locally and globally. Throughout 2019, Suqia implemented several developmental projects across many countries in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Est., Dar Al Ber Society and Dubai Cares. This is in accordance with the UN report on goal six of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, which highlights countries that need clean water the most.



Suqia UAE supports the wise leadership’s efforts to consolidate the UAE’s position as one of the world’s largest donors. Suqia works in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. These directives are to invest in building human beings and national calibre, to make the UAE the best country in the world on the Golden Jubilee of the Union, according to the UAE Vision 2021.



Since its establishment in March 2015, by a decree from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Suqia UAE has been achieving the wise leadership approach to highlight the UAE’s commitment to giving, which is an integral part of the country’s ethos, and His Highness praised Suqia’s efforts on his Twitter account.



Reaching more than 13 million people across 36 countries



Suqia succeeded till date in reaching more than 13 million people across 36 countries. Suqia UAE has completed more than 1,000 sustainable water projects around the world since its establishment. This is in collaboration with its strategic partners mainly Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Est., and Dubai Cares.



2020: Towards the next 50



HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia UAE, said that Suqia continues implementing projects and initiatives that provide drinking water to people in need around the world, regardless of their religion, ethnicity, culture, or nationality. This is in accordance with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who said, “The UAE Water Aid Foundation will not differentiate between one person and another, so are all of our humanitarian works; such is the UAE humanitarian mission that lies in helping the afflicted, the needy and disadvantaged people all over the world.”[HM1] Suqia UAE supports the vision of His Highness in the 50-Year Charter, which reads ‘charity is indeed a major factor in the happiness of societies and the continuity of progress and prosperity.’ 



Al Tayer added that Suqia contributes to finding sustainable, innovative global water scarcity and pollution solutions through research and projects, using solar power to provide clean water. Suqia not only aims to provide drinking water to the needy around the world but also promotes research and development efforts to find innovative and sustainable solutions to water scarcity. It also seeks to explore ways to purify water using solar power to meet the increasing demand and contribute to sustainable development.



Zayed Humanitarian Day



Zayed Humanitarian Day reminds us of the achievements and accomplishments of the pioneer of humanitarian work, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose quality initiatives contributed to improving the lives of millions of people around the world. His name is associated with giving and generosity in recognition of his achievements and contribution to all humankind. All Suqia’s humanitarian, social, and voluntary initiatives and programmes reflect the ethical values and principles instilled in the hearts of Emiratis, by the founding fathers of the UAE.



On Zayed Humanitarian Day 2019, Suqia UAE supported the launch of ‘From the UAE for Rohingya Children and Women’ campaign under the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Suqia provided all the requirements to make the campaign successful, underlining the values of giving and charity, which are the main principles of the UAE’s mission.



During its annual Ramadan campaign in 2019, Suqia UAE distributed 8 million cups of water in mosques and Iftar tents during the Holy Month. This was in collaboration with 14 local charity organisations, reaching about 4 million people in 13 countries. Suqia UAE also took part in ‘Their Suhoor is on Us’ initiative, organised by the Community Development Authority’s Youth Council. Suqia contributed to the campaign by providing 48,000 Mai Dubai water cups. These were distributed with Suhoor meals for workers during Ramadan 2019.



The ‘10 Million Meals’ Campaign in 2020



Suqia UAE participated in the 10 Million Meals campaign, the most extensive national campaign to provide meals and food supplies for people in need in the UAE. Suqia will provide 10 million water bottles worth AED 5 million, in collaboration with Mai Dubai.



The ‘10 Million Meals Campaign’ was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the UAE Food Bank. The campaign is under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives to help people in need and mitigate the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak around the world, during the Holy Month of Ramadan.



The campaign provides and delivers meals or food supplies for individuals and families in need, in collaboration with charitable and humanitarian organisations in the UAE, directly to their homes wherever their locations are in the UAE.



The 2nd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Awards



The second Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Awards witnessed a large turnout from research institutions, individuals and innovators from around the world, building on the success of the first award. The winners’ innovative ideas and projects were widely recognised. This underlines the importance of the awards globally and enhances the UAE’s position as a platform for innovation, an incubator and a destination for creative minds from around the world.



In January 2020, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council and Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, honoured 10 winners of the 2nd Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. The Award was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to encourage research institutions, individuals, and innovators from around the world to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to water scarcity that use solar power. The USD 1 million includes three main categories: Innovative Projects Award, Innovative Research and Development Award, and the Innovative Individual Award.
