HSC 2019: A success rate of 74.95% for the Republic of Mauritius

February 7, 2020: The success rate at the Cambridge Higher School Certificate (HSC) for the Republic of Mauritius amounted this year to 74.95%, representing a slight increase compared to 74.90% for In 2018, a total of 8,975 candidates took part in the HSC exams in 2019, 8,657 for Mauritius and 318 for Rodrigues.


This morning, the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Interior, and External Communications, Minister of Rodrigues, the Scattered Islands and Territorial Integrity, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, proceeded to the signing ceremony of the list of HSC winners for the 2019 vintage at the Trésor building in Port-Louis.


The number of laureates per school is as follows:

  • Royal College of Port Louis - 9;

  • Queen Elizabeth College - 7;

  • Royal College of Curepipe - 6;

  • State College Dr Maurice Curé - 6;

  • Rabindranath Tagore Secondary School - 3;

  • Droopnath Ramphul State College - 2;

  • Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Moka - 2;

  • GMB State College Atchia - 2;

  • College of the Holy Spirit - 2;

  • Lorette College of Quatre Bornes - 1;

  • Modern College - 1; and

  • College of Rodrigues - 4.


The government offers 68 scholarships each year to those who have excelled at the HSC exams. A scholarship is also offered by the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) as part of the MCB Foundation Scholarship . Of its 69 scholarships, 45 are offered taking performance into account only.


In addition, 24 additional scholarships are awarded based on academic and social criteria. The list of 24 beneficiaries will be announced after a selection exercise led by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology, and that of Social Integration, Social Security and Solidarity national.
