Mauritius School health program: for early detection and rapid treatment of noncommunicable diseases

February 12, 2020:The health program aimed at promoting the importance of good health education for young people and facilitating the early detection of noncommunicable diseases as well as the rapid treatment of students was launched today for Region 4 in France Boyer De La Giroday SSS in Plaine Magnien.



This program, which targets students in grades 7, 9 and 12 from secondary schools, is an integral component within the education system in Mauritius. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Ms. Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, were present at the launch . the Minister of Health and Welfare, Dr. Kailesh Kumar Singh Jagutpal; and the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr. Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram.



In her speech, the Deputy Prime Minister recalled that sharing knowledge on noncommunicable diseases and healthy lifestyles helps prevent and protect against preventable diseases. She spoke of several health related initiatives that are being implemented in secondary schools.
