Sensitisation campaign at Notre Dame College promotes forthcoming IOIG 2019

A sensitisation campaign aiming to promote the forthcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) 2019 as well as raise students’ awareness on the multi-sports event, was held today at the Notre Dame College in Curepipe. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint, representatives of the Comité d’Organisation des 10èmes Jeux des Iles de l’Ocèan Indien (COJI)and other personalities were present.  The mascot of the IOIG 2019, Krouink was also part of the event.

Addressing students of Grade 10 to 13, Minister Toussaint pointed out that each and every one should energetically support the Mauritian team during the IOIG 2019 which will be held from 19 to 28 July 2019 in Mauritius.  He expressed his confidence that young people will demonstrate their enthusiasm by encouraging athletes who are taking part in the Games and cheering for Mauritius so as to honour the country.

The Ambassadors of the COJI, Mrs Marie Lourdes Allysamba-Appadoo and Mrs Nathalie Ramen who have been former athletes and medalists, outlined their respective sporting journeys in a bid to boost the students of the Notre Dame College to take up a sports discipline while at the same time pursue their academic pathway.  They respectively introduced two athletes Ms Mélissa Nigathe, student of the College and Mr Arnaud Cathan, Physical Education teacher of Windsor College who will participate in the IOIG 2019.

IOIG 2019 

Mauritius will be hosting the IOIG for the third time.  Participating islands are the Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mayotte, Seychelles including Reunion for this 10th edition of the Games.

The objectives are to contribute to regional cooperation through the development of sports in the region, build friendship and mutual understanding between the people of the islands of the Indian Ocean, in the spirit of the Olympics.
