Short film competition: the creativity of Mauritians at the service of road safety

February 12, 2020: A competition of short films on the theme "Respect and courtesy on the road" was launched yesterday in Port Louis by the Minister of Road Transport and Light Rail, Mr. Alan Ganoo, in the presence of Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr. Avinash Teeluck.


C ette competition, organized by the Department of Transportation road and light rail , in collaboration with the Mauritius Film Development Corporation , is an opportunity for the government to reaffirm its commitment to advocate a  "zero tolerance"  face the bad actions of users the road. The theme of respect and courtesy aims to challenge the lack of discipline of Mauritians on the roads and to better educate the population on the dangers they face as a user.


The other objectives are to encourage Mauritians to be more vigilant on the road , especially those who are the most vulnerable, namely pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, and to make driving safer.


Those wishing to take part in the competition will have to make a three-minute "Docu-Fiction" video based on four main criteria which are: originality, research, technical competence and chronology.

The short films will be broadcast on the channels of the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, while a jury and a vote by the public will determine the winners. The winners will leave with the sum of Rs 50,000 and a trophy. The second and third prizes are Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively accompanied by a souvenir trophy. Prizes of Rs 10,000 will also be awarded for the best screenplay, the best writer, the best photograph, the best actor and the best actress.
